Stop Using Nigerians For Personal Affairs, Wike Tells Coalition

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned the newly formed opposition coalition to stop using Nigerians for their personal affairs.

Wike stated this during his monthly media parley at his official residence in Abuja, on Thursday.

According to him, the recent coalition by some political figures who adopted the African Democratic Party (ADC) as their political platform was not in the interest of Nigerians.

“Because you have issues with someone, you say Nigerians are angry and then you go ahead and form a coalition. Please let’s take the issues of Nigeria seriously.

“I challenge all of them to show their scorecards. When they were at the helm of affairs, what did they do to better the country?” he asked.

On some issues in the FCT particularly the teachers’ strike, the minister stated that he cannot outrightly tackle the issue.

He explained that the monies owed the teachers aren’t to be paid by the FCT administration but rather by the area councils.

Wike said he has taken several actions such as seizing the 10% internally generated revenue meant for the area councils. However, he said there was little that he could do because the monies owed were estimated to be about 18 billion naira.
