Former SGF Babachir Lawal Quits APC, Hints At New Political Alliance

Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, has officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

His resignation was contained in a letter he personally signed and addressed to the APC chairman of Banshika Ward in Hong Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

In the letter dated 29th June 2025, Lawal noted that his decision to leave the party takes immediate effect.

He also hinted at a new political direction, stating that he would soon make public his current political affiliation.

According to him, the move is part of a broader plan to “join other compatriots in working towards making Nigeria a better living place for all Nigerians.”

Meanwhile, photos of the former SGF — who served during President Muhammadu Buhari’s first term — have emerged on social media, showing him alongside notable opposition figures.

These include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; former Senator Binani Ahmed, who was the APC’s governorship candidate in the last general elections in Adamawa State; as well as former Senators Ahmed Barata and Abdulazeez Nyako, among others.

The individuals in the viral photos are alleged to be part of the Nigerian National Opposition Coalition.
