Delta threatens to seize tricycles over non-payment of N7,500 fees

Delta State Government has threatened to impound commercial tricycles whose owners fail to pay the statutory levies of N7,500 for a rider’s card, apron, emblem, and stickers within the next two weeks.
The warning was contained in a statement issued by the Director of Public Communication / Functioning Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Information, Harold Ojji, copies of which were made available to journalists in Warri on Tuesday.
The statement partly reads, “It is hereby announced for the information of the public, particularly Motorcycle (Okada) and Tricycle (Keke) riders, that the Delta State Government has granted another two weeks’ grace to the above categories of transporters to enable them acquire the approved aprons, stickers and rider’s cards as part of the state government’s security profiling process.
“Accordingly, all commercial motorcycle and tricycle riders are hereby required to purchase the rider’s card, apron, emblem, and stickers at a government subsidised rate of N7,500 from the Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycles Operators’ Association Offices across the state.
“It is emphasised that defaulters of this directive would have their Motorcycles/Tricycles impounded by the Directorate of Transport Vehicle Inspection Officers, Security Agents and Commercial Motorcycle and Tricycle Operators’ Association, Delta State (COMTOA Task Force) at the end of the two weeks’ grace which shall expire on the 18th of August, 2025.”
