EIran has executed Rouzbeh Vadi for spying on behalf of Israel amid rising tensions and targeted attacks on nuclear scientists.
Iran on Wednesday executed Rouzbeh Vadi, a man convicted of espionage for Israel, in a case tied to the recent Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian officials and nuclear personnel. The announcement was made by the Iranian judiciary’s official news outlet, Mizan.
Vadi was accused of passing sensitive information about an Iranian nuclear scientist who was killed during Israel’s June airstrikes on Iran. According to Mizan, he had been employed within one of Iran’s “important and sensitive organisations,” although specific details of his role and the information leaked were not disclosed.
The judiciary described his actions as part of “a wide range of crimes against the country’s internal and external security,” stating that they had caused “severe disruption to public order.”
His execution marks a continuation of a trend this year, with at least eight Iranians executed on similar charges of espionage for Israel in recent months.
Tensions between the two arch-rivals have escalated significantly. In June, Israel launched a 12-day campaign of airstrikes targeting senior Iranian generals and nuclear scientists. Tehran responded with retaliatory missile and drone attacks, further straining the already volatile situation.
The execution underscores the high stakes of intelligence and counterintelligence operations in the region, particularly as Iran and Israel remain locked in a shadow war that continues to play out both openly and covertly across the Middle East.
