Ghislaine Maxwell insists “there is no list,” rejecting conspiracy theories about Epstein’s alleged network of powerful associates.
Ghislaine Maxwell, the disgraced socialite and convicted sex trafficker, has denied the existence of a so-called “Epstein client list,” telling US officials during a high-profile interview that conspiracy theories surrounding Jeffrey Epstein’s connections to global elites are unfounded.
In a newly unsealed 300-page transcript of a July interrogation, Maxwell flatly declared: “There is no list.” The comment directly challenges years of speculation that Epstein maintained records of powerful associates who benefited from his alleged sex trafficking network.
The transcript reveals Maxwell defending several prominent political figures. She claimed that former US President Donald Trump had never acted inappropriately in her presence.
“The president was never inappropriate with anybody,” she said. “In the times I was with him, he was a gentleman in all respects.”
She also distanced Trump from Epstein, saying she believed the two men were only “friendly in social settings” rather than close companions.
Maxwell rejected allegations that former President Bill Clinton engaged in misconduct and called claims against Britain’s Prince Andrew “mind-blowingly not conceivable.” The Duke of York has long denied accusations of sexual abuse made against him, although he reached a financial settlement with one of Epstein’s accusers, Virginia Giuffre, in 2022.
“First of all, let’s just state, I did not introduce him to Prince Andrew,” Maxwell insisted, describing media reports of her role as fabrications.
The interview also addressed the 2019 death of Epstein, who was found dead in his New York jail cell while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. The official ruling was suicide by hanging.
Maxwell, however, expressed doubt. “I do not believe he died by suicide,” she said. Yet she dismissed theories of assassination, calling such claims “ludicrous.” According to her, if Epstein had been targeted, “he would’ve been a very easy target when he wasn’t in jail.”
The convicted trafficker is currently serving a 20-year sentence but has petitioned the US Supreme Court to overturn her conviction. Her legal team has also floated the possibility of a presidential pardon. Shortly after her July interview, Maxwell was quietly transferred from a Florida prison to a low-security facility in Texas. Officials offered no explanation for the move.
Observers note that Maxwell’s cooperation with investigators could be part of an effort to rehabilitate her image or appeal for clemency. The White House, however, has insisted “no leniency is being given or discussed” in her case.
Maxwell’s testimony has already drawn criticism from Epstein’s victims and their families, who argue that her denials are self-serving and cannot be trusted. Giuffre’s family issued a statement after the transcripts were released, describing Maxwell as a “monster” who should not be given a platform.
The unsealed documents come amid renewed political pressure for transparency around Epstein’s network. Members of Congress, journalists, and even some Republicans have urged the Trump administration to release more information about Epstein’s ties to the rich and powerful.
Still, Maxwell’s blunt assertion “There is no list” will likely do little to quell speculation. For years, the notion of a secret client roster has fueled global conspiracy theories that influential individuals were shielded by the so-called “deep state.” Even former US officials, including FBI Director Kash Patel and Deputy Director Dan Bongino, once repeated those claims before backtracking.
More than four years after Epstein’s death, his case continues to reverberate through politics, media, and culture. Maxwell’s testimony adds another layer of controversy, casting doubt on long-circulated theories while raising new questions about her motives.
For now, she remains behind bars insisting she was unfairly vilified and that much of the narrative around Epstein’s world is false. But with her Supreme Court appeal pending, her words may have been carefully chosen to influence public perception and, ultimately, her own fate.
