US President Donald Trump is set to create a White House task force to support the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

US President Donald Trump is set to create a White House task force to support the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
US President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order establishing a White House Olympics task force to oversee security, transport, and other federal coordination efforts for the 2028 Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles, a senior administration official said.
The task force will include members of Trump’s cabinet and key government agencies, and will work in partnership with state and local authorities to ensure a seamless operational framework for the event.
“It will streamline visa processing and credentialing for foreign athletes, coaches, officials, and media,” the official said in an email, highlighting the importance of efficient international access ahead of the high-profile global gathering.
The 2028 Summer Olympics, set to take place in Los Angeles, will mark the third time the city has hosted the Games — having previously done so in 1932 and 1984. Organisers released the first glimpse of the Olympic competition schedule last month.
Trump, who returned to the presidency after defeating Joe Biden in the 2024 election, has expressed personal enthusiasm about overseeing the Games during his second term.
“During his first term, President Trump was instrumental in securing America’s bid to host the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. The president considers it a great honour to oversee this global sporting spectacle in his second term,” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt in a statement on Monday.
Casey Wasserman, chair and president of LA28, welcomed the creation of the task force as a key milestone in preparations for the Games.
“The creation of this task force marks an important step forward in our planning efforts and reflects our shared commitment to delivering not just the biggest, but the greatest Games the world has ever seen in the summer of 2028,” Wasserman said in a statement.
The executive order and the new federal coordination effort come as momentum builds towards the landmark event, which is expected to bring tens of thousands of athletes, fans, and officials from around the world to Southern California.
